Abstract: Through this study we did a literature research on the impact of marine intrusion on irrigation water and soil degradation of the Sahel-east of Algiers. We have defined the phenomenon, the mechanisms that manages and the main factors. We also talked about the lowering of the groundwater level of the water table and increased levels of certain elements, including nitrates. In the end, we concluded that excessive pumping caused the advance of the salt wedge that can result in increased salinity of groundwater that was the cause of the loss of some wells for irrigation
