The direct discharge of wastewater to the natural environment without treatment can cause harmful effects on the environment and public health, so in order to avoid these problems, the treatment of this wastewater is essential. The activated sludge process is the most widely used treatment technique this wastewater purification process is a biological treatment process in free cultures. The objective of this work is to understand the purification operation of activated sludge treatment plants, first of all, we have made a bibliographic synthesis on this technique, then introduce to the operating mode of activated sludge depollution units, and at the end of this work we will contribute to the study of a case where the activated sludge process is used.en_US
