Abstract: Our research focuses on the influence of pressure loss on the design of a loaded pipe. This study is based on several pressure drop relationships, namely the Darcy-Weisbach relation, Hazen williams relation, Lechapt and Calmon relation, Colebrook-White relation and Reynolds number. The turbulent flow is characterized by the Reynolds number on the one hand and the relative roughness ε/ D on the other. We will use these two parameters to determine the coefficient of friction using different relationships such as that of Colebrook-White, and by the explicit formulas of Swamee and Jain, Achour, Moody, Altshul, Churchill, Zigrang and Sylvester, of Nackab and Nikuradsé. Then by the calculation of gravity and discharge cases we can draw interesting conclusions on the influence of pressure loss on the diameter of the pipe. We found that the Hazen-Williams and Lechapt and Calmon formulas lead to diameters lower than those calculated by the Darcy-Weisbach formula Keywords: pressure loss, the coefficient of friction, Reynolds number.
