In order to know the effect of groundwater recharge on free aquifers and observe the evolution of the water table in the course of groundwater recharge and also view the field vectors speed in two dimensions, we developed a numerical program based finite element method. This program can solve the equation of Richards which represents the mathematical model flow in porous media. This equation would account both the saturated zone and the unsaturated zone and it is obtained by combining the equation of continuity and Darcy's law. The position of the water table and drainage network are determined within the finite element by linear interpolation between the nodal values. At the end we tested the effectiveness of the programme developed by examples of application.en_US
