dc.description.abstractThe water hammer of wave propagation especially presents a capital problem in hydraulic field in the large hydraulic installations like the hydroelectric stations and the pumping stations. The application of the techniques of numerical calculation had like consequence the development of the simulation programs whose precision and reliability are acceptable. A priori, our work considers the calculation of overpressures and the depressions in a discharge pipe following the abrupt stop of a pump. Sight its simplicity and its reliability one used the method of the characteristics for the resolution of the equations controlling the transitory flow by using the software of programming MATLAB.en_US
