The problem addressed in this paper is the design of water distribution networks with minimal cost. Optimal design (with minimal cost ) was presented, based on genetic algorithms and that is compared to the techniques of deterministic mathematical programming (linear gradient method of LPG program ) and heuristics (Method of Featherstone and El Djumaily ). The method of genetic algorithms was chosen for optimization of distribution networks, because it allows a good exploration of the area of feasible solutions with good use of data, unlike the deterministic methods that allow only use of data in a field local, thereby providing a local optimal solution.en_US
