Abstract: During treatment, water inevitably goes through the disinfection step, which is essential in any water treatment sector before its distribution. But the contact of various disinfectants with water which contains organic matter and bromide ions in large quantities creates toxic substances which are the by-products of water disinfection, such as trihalomethanes. Relevant to this, the aim of this work is to define them, their toxic effects and to propose solutions to reduce them and disinfect the water at the slightest harm.
