The water sector in Algeria has undergone significant changes since the country's independence, which has had direct effects on the efficiency of the public water service. These changes are directly linked to the different economic orientations of the country. Water governance is as important as the technical aspect because it conditions the latter. This thesis aims to summarize the changes that have occurred in water governance and to make a critical study in order to make recommendations for the implementation of a management and governance policy based on a perfect knowledge of the current situation and technical challenges. The study of the evolution of water regulation in Algeria has gone through several stages, depending on the economic and political context, and also on the challenges of the sector. The main water laws, numbering 3, have tried to remedy the deficits of water supply, but the problems of lack of water and sometimes lack of investment have not allowed to reach a high level of objectives. For this reason, it was recommended that special attention be paid to governance and the training of managers to complement the technical advances in the field.en_US
