Abstract: The problem of drinking water scarcity remains a major challenge in many countries, and due to the importance of water resources in the oceans, seawater desalination technologies are constantly evolving at present. Our study aims to evaluate and analyze the effectiveness of membrane techniques for the Bateau Cassé seawater desalination plant located in eastern Algeria, in the municipality of Bordj el Kiffan. We used two different techniques to soften seawater, namely reverse osmosis and multi-stage flash distillation (MSF). We compared these two techniques to determine which is more effective, based on experimental results and those of the reverse osmosis membrane simulation software (LG chemistry), as well as the total dissolved solids in the treated water and in the brine, and the cost of each desalination technique, while ensuring the best water quality.
