Pathologies in the construction and filling of earth dams and dikes raise several crucial questions about their stability. Factors such as the geometry of the dam, the mechanical properties of the construction materials, the compaction of the materials, and the generation of pore pressures play an essential role in this dynamic. However, these aspects are often overlooked in traditional approaches to evaluating the safety of earth dams. In this context, how can the use of PLAXIS finite element software enable a more in-depth and accurate analysis of the effect of water on the stability of earth dams? A practical application of this methodology will be carried out on the DRAA DISS dam, revealing that the dam remains stable for all expected water levels, including during rapid drawdown , despite a relatively low safety factor.en_US
